My name is Vanessa Villegas. I am a fourth-year journalism major at San Diego State University and a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Society of Professional Journalists. I previously wrote for Pasadena City College's student newspaper, The Courier. I interned with Long Beach Public Access Digital Network (PADNET TV). PADNET TV is a community media center and public access television station. As an intern I was trained on all aspects of video production and worked with other interns to create a show that aired on the station. I am currently searching for another internship, so I can gain even more experience before I graduate. I aspire to become a TV news reporter and anchor, but I am open to a variety of journalism roles. I am especially interested in reporting on topics like arts/culture, news, immigration, and any issues that impact the Latino community.
"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move." - Anthony Bourdain
